Michaela joined Therawis Diagnostics GmbH in 2017 and became Director Research & Science as of January 2018. From 1986 to 2016 she worked as a scientist at the Helmholtz Zentrum München in the field of cancer research with focus on prognostic markers in breast cancer. In 2011 Michaela was appointed Professsor in Experimental Pathology of the Medical Faculty at the Technische Universität München. In 2007 she became Deputy Chairman, and from April 2015 until October 2016 she was Acting Director of the Institute of Pathology at the Helmholtz Zentrum München. She authored more than 90 publications in international scientific journals and books and attracted third-party funds e.g. Wilhelm Sander Foundation, DFG, Bayerische Forschungsstiftung, Vaillant Stiftung and EU-funded projects e.g. ‘STORE’; ‘TRANS-BIG’; ‘PRESS’). She was reviewer for international scientific journals such as International Journal of Cancer, British Journal of Cancer, European Journal of Cancer, Journal of Pathology, Cancer Cell Biology, Oncology, Diagnostic Molecular Pathology, Pathology Research and Practice, Journal of Translational Medicine, Experimental Cell Research, Breast Cancer Research and Treatment. Michaela Aubele studied biology and earned her PhD in biology from the Institute of Anthropology and Human Genetics at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, Munich.
